Mike Baca started his radio career in 1992 as an intern at KPAY.
He graduated from Chico State in 1994 with a degree in Communication with an emphasis in Media Arts. He has held radio jobs in many different markets including Ukiah, Sacramento and Phoenix. Mike returned to KPAY in January of 1997 and has served as a news reporter and Sports Director.

Mike is entering his 12th year of being the voice of the Chico State Wildcat basketball and baseball teams and was fortunate enough to call the Wildcat two baseball National Championships in 1997 and 1999.

In his spare time Mike likes hiking and watching the Dodgers, reading Taylor Caldwell novels and researching The Council on Foreign Relations, The Tri Lateral Commission, the Bilderbergers and the Skull and Bones Society. His favorite historical figure is Marcus Tullius Cicero. “Cicero believed in a true Republic something we will never see.” He reads Ayn Rand and considers himself a Relative Objectivist. Libertarian to the core….”All Freedom…All the time.” Mike loves the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Browns and Golden State Warriors. Yes, these teams break his heart but he loves them anyway.

Mike Wessels

 Mike in the studio

Mike Wessels hails from Blue Earth, Minnesota
and came to the North State via Wyoming, where he got his start doing high
school play-by-play in 1980. First game, a high school basketball game pitting
the Ten Sleep Pioneers against Byron, Wyoming. If you’re wondering, Ten Sleep
won a laugher. Mike’s been behind a play-by-play microphone for over 1,000 games
since then. Among the highlights, broadcasting games that featured future major
league stars Mike Deveraux and Mike Lansing, and pro football stars Larry Allan
and Aaron Rogers. Now days, Mike is the football voice of the Butte College
Roadrunners and also the color analyst for Chico State Basketball. “As a
broadcaster, I try to make sure the focus is on the game and not on what may or
may not make me unique as a play-by-play guy.” Hope you enjoy the game Sports
